Hard to Miss Giant Stig

A 30ft high sculpture of The Stig has been created to mark the launch of new global channel BBC Brit. The fibreglass model took three sculptors over two months to construct, with the head and torso alone measuring higher than a double decker bus.

The statue was loaded onto a truck at Top Gear HQ at Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey and will now journey across Europe for three days before arriving at its final destination: Warsaw's Palace of Science and Culture.

BBC Worldwide's Amanda Hill said: "BBC Brit will be the new home of Top Gear in Poland, so what better way to mark this than by taking them a giant Stig. Fans will be able to spot him on the roads of England, Holland and Germany, he’s impossible to miss."

BBC Brit, which launches on February 1, is described by the BBC as "premium factual entertainment that is intelligent but irreverent. Male-skewing but with broader appeal, it blends expertise with entertainment and fact with fun. The channel will become the exclusive home of Top Gear and covers a rich variety of subjects: cars; science; adventure; business; life-changing moments; extreme characters; quirky eccentrics and plenty of laughs."
The 22nd series of Top Gear, featuring Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May starts on BBC Two tonight (January 25) at 8pm.

Speeding driver is handed 10 penalty tickets on ONE day and blames roadside cameras

A speeding driver who got 10 penalty notices through the post on one day has blamed a roadside camera for his racing - claiming the flashes were too dull to see.

Abbas Hashed was caught by the same camera doing up to 39mph outside a school over the space of four months.

The 58-year-old notched up a staggering 30 penalty points in that time as he continually raced along a road close to a primary school in Swansea.

Dad-of-two Hashemi told the court he was unaware he was speeding until one day when the postman delivered 10 tickets on one day.

The Iranian national, who does not speak English and had to use an interrupter at Swansea Crown Court, blamed the cameras for not letting him know he was going too fast.

He told the court: “The cameras are very old and for a very long time the way they flash is not very visible. I do not notice it very much.”

Hashemi, of Swansea, was banned from driving for 18months and fined £370. He was also told that he could be jailed if he is caught driving while banned.

General Motors plans fresh move into electric car market

General Motors plans to offer a new electric vehicle with a style and price-point that can compete with the forthcoming Tesla Model 3 car due out in two years, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.

The $30,000 electric car called the Chevrolet Bolt is expected to debut commercially in 2017, It will be able to drive 200 miles on just a single charge and is intended to cut into a market where Elon Musk's Tesla Motors Inc has been an investor darling.

Electric car purchases badly lag sales of gas-powered vehicles the sooner that they can become price competitive the better.

Driver stopped in lane 3 of M25 after fuel light turned on

A driver stopped in lane three of the M25 on Thursday morning - because her fuel light started flashing!

The woman, who was in an Audi Q7, was travelling along the anticlockwise carriageway between junctions 6 for Godstone and junction 5 for Sevenoaks when the light appeared.

Surrey Police responded after first receiving reports that the car had broken down.

A spokesman for the force said: "Her fuel warning light came on so she stopped in lane three as she was confused due it not being a car that she usually drives.

"She was given suitable advice and directions to the nearest garage."

Proposed Ultra Low Emission Zone

So today an email popped in to my inbox which some of you might be interested in:

I am writing to remind you to share your views on the proposed Ultra Low Emission Zone which would operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the same area as the Congestion Charging zone.

The zone would be introduced from 2020 and aims to encourage the use of newer, cleaner vehicles, reducing vehicle pollution by half.

All cars, motorcycles, vans, minibuses, and heavy vehicles would need to meet a new emission standard or pay a daily charge to travel within the zone. The proposed daily Ultra Low Emission Zone charge would be in addition to the existing Congestion Charge.

To find out more and to have your say, please visit tfl.gov.uk/ultra-low-emission-zone

This consultation ends on Friday 9 January 2015.
Make sure you have your say!
